I became quite nervous for this lesson because I knew exactly what would be said about plus sizes. I am on the plus size myself (UK 14) and took what was said to heart.
Images of size zero models were shown and everybody was in agreement that it wasn’t good for this to be allowed. Then we were shown images of plus size supermodels about UK 16+, and many comments were said about how fat these girls were and that it wasn’t nice. This got me annoyed because these models were beautiful.
Then we moved onto celebrities, and Kim Kardashian was featured, loads of boys started saying how Kim is fat. Excuse me, how is this healthy, curvy woman fat!? I think it is disgusting that some people have such high expectations of what we should look like. Also, on the topic of Kardashians I heard one girl say ‘which is the fat Kardashian?’ they were referring to Khloe, this got me even more angry because I look up to Khloe as a role model as she is not ashamed of her body, or succumbed to the pressures to be thin.
It just makes me so angry and upset that we live in a world that can be so judgemental. Why are people surprised when so many young people are suffering from eating disorders and low body confidence. Something really needs to be done to change people’s perceptions of what it beautiful, everybody needs to know that it doesn’t matter what size you are, everybody is beautiful!
